Hope For The Hopeless

Leti Diaz

There is Hope for the Hopeless

There was this young man who was probably in his early 30’s who seemed to be very successful.  His appearance was pristine; he was a good-looking young man; his hair was in place, dressed like a million bucks, and drove a nice car. He would trade in his new Mercedes every year for a newer model.  On the outside, it looked like there was nothing wrong, he was always smiling and laughing, as if he had it all together.  It looked like he had the “world in his hands”.   Then on a Monday, he took his own life. Truth be told, I was shocked and sad to hear that sad news.

What brought him to that place where he no longer had Hope?  I worked with him and could now see the tell tail signs of his insecurities.  I sat directly across from him for a couple of years, and every day he would put someone down for the way they looked, for the way they talked, for not knowing certain things, etc.  He himself was hurting, and what you have inside eventually has to come out, and that’s how he delt with it; he ridiculed people.  Could it have been that his parents pushed him to be “perfect”. Perhaps, he was yelled at to be perfect, perhaps his parents were overly controlling and if he made a mistake he’d get yelled at. That’s the way he was, everything had to be in its perfect place, if there was a hair out of place, he’d have to go fix it.  It was all about appearance.  People that ridicule others are hurting people themselves, “hurt people, hurt people”.

But there is hope.

There are scriptures that state:

  • Psalm 27:10 “though father and mother forsake you, I will never forsake you”

  • John 15:9 “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you, abide in my Love

  • Matthew 16:9-10 “lay up your treasures in heaven where thief nor moth, nor rust will destroy

The Kingdom of God is here and now; it’s His peace, acceptance, love, His healing; that’s who He is; He is the Kingdom, His Kingdom can be found by abiding (permanesca) in Him!

  • Matthew 11:28-29 “come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart.  And you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light”.

  • John 7:38 – He who believe in Me, as the Scriptures has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

  • Isaiah 43:20 – … Because I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen, This people I have formed for Myself, They shall declare My praise.

  • Isaiah 44:3 – For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring…
    (He gives life)

  • The Samaritan woman at the well; John 4:9-11: Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealing with Samaritans.  Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, “Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”  The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep.  Where then do You get that living water?... skip to 13 – Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.

So, I ask you, are you burdened, worried, afraid, lost, lonely, depressed, oppressed, sick?

What are your treasures?  Is it your home, your husband, your wife, your kids, your tv, your music, your dancing, your looks, your clothes, your car? Is your heart set on the things of this world that will get old, and someday become tiresome or worthless?

Now I ask, “are you thirsty”? Are you ready to be filled with the river of living water and be filled with the type of joy that only God can give no matter what’s going on around you?

Prayer:

Jesus, I thank you that you died for my sins, I repent of my sins, please forgiving me, and send the Holy Spirit to refresh me with Your living water, so I can truly live.  Amen!
